Important info about driver views
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:04:56 AM »
Hi all! i would like to post some information regarding the recent discussion/debate on the driver views for the elite series.

Phillip has decided to let us chose weather we will allow open driver view on the plate tracks in a vote.

I am in favor of leaving the view open for the following reasons;

1. the driver view is a personal choice, no other driver is in any way affected by another driver's choice of view. Why vote to restrict something that does not impact u?
2. the lack of a reliable spotter/spotters makes the in-car view perilous at best, and increases the chance of driver errors/cautions
3. while the elite league is our showcase of the best drivers. restricting the view is unnecessarily detracting from the overall enjoyment of the game for many.
4. the lack of forward visibility when pushing other cars is hazard and again increases the number of mistakes/cautions.
5. While i agree with the desire to keep the sim as close to real as possible, we do make allowances for the sim in other cases(chase format, weather, mechanical breakdowns, damage settings. etc.) why single out this item? especially considering it's lack of impact on other drivers.

I am posting this to ensure that u guys have all the information on this issue before u make ur vote.
This is an important issue for me, and i am asking the HDSR community to please show ur support or indifference :) and vote in favor of unrestricted driver views on plate tracks only.

I would also like to thank all of you for competing with the professionalism, respect, and integrity that i see regularly out on the track! A big thanks to Phillip and the other admins for all their time and significant efforts! I am honored to be a participant!
And weather u like it or not, I call u all friends!   :)

hey Guys
an heated discussion on this topic
for my 2 cents worth. i dont care what view people use as long as they can hold their line and not hit me :)
i prefer the tv cockpit view myself. I have run the in car view and find it ok, however i still prefer the tv cockpit. its the view i've always used and am most comfortable using it. i find it frustrating driving the in car view at the plate tracks as the visibility is very limited and we don't have the aids/feel the real guys do.
as far as i am concerned. you use your view, i'll use mine :), if your force me to use your view, you use mine :(
honestly i'd rather take time to do anything else than try to do something that frustrates me.

No offense to anyone...but I vote for CLOSED cockpit  - have been dong so since Hawaii and will always do so. I do this racing to be as close a simlation as possible, not like Xbox or other "games". Sure the view from behind while drafting at the plate tracks is limited - but that is what makes you more aware and on-edge and learn patience. Furthermore, the view would be closed cockpit - not closed mirrors. Aren't there mirror adjustments to allow better viewing if one chooses to do so?

hi Tim, no offence taken, I don't care what view you or anyone else uses, I why would u or anyone else care what view I use? Why are people voting to restrict something that has no effect on them? I thought people cared about freedom of choice! No offence! :)

Hey....I just do this to have fun!

All I'm saying is if someone with a non-standard (to a real driver) view affects my fun in a negative way due to this different view, then I have an issue. Having not used this view for a real race in 20+ years I can't say it does or doesn't give an advantage, so I'll leave it with those who have to decide.

Either way I still just want to have fun... ;)
