General Discussion / AMD Video Card Frame increase
« on: February 04, 2015, 06:22:19 AM »
Hey guys, I was playing with my video card today, and made a change in the catalyst control center that may help you get more frames. Under my Digital Flat Panels tab, and click Properties(Digital Flat-Panel) Then under Image scaling preferences, check enable GPU up-scaling, then below under Preferred Scaling Mode, select Scale image to full panel size. I had Maintain aspect ratio selected, but when I selected Scale Image to full panel size, I got an increase of over 100 fps. I was at 120 ish, but after the change I went up to 280 - 300 with no quality lost. I run all graphics on high. Also under the gaming tab, anti aliasing mode, I have selected override application settings. I use 8xEQ for samples, but saw no visual advantage over 8x and there is a fps gain there as well. Then inside the game, under display, choose bilinear for the texture filtering. Because you told your video card to over ride application settings, the texture filtering wont try to add 16x in game, it is only trying to add bilinear so you will have a few fps to play with if you want to increase your other video settings in the game, shadows etc, to make the game more immersive.

General Discussion / More Wheel settings
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:17:40 AM »
Here are what settings I use along with the ini fie change I made, those settings are in another post. I run a Login echo G27 wheel so you may need to make adjustments to get the feel you like. I run a wheel lock of 5 or 5.5 in the garage just for Daytona and Talladega and 16 or 17 for all other tracks. Then under controller settings in the game,  I have speed sensitivity at 10, the higher the number, the less sensitive your wheel is and vice versa. And under the mapping sensitivity for the steering in the game,  I will always run 50% at the tracks, but may move it down a little to 45% - 48% for Daytona and Talladega. If you go less than 50% oon the sensitivity the center of the wheel will move right so you would be turning to the right a little to go straight.  If you go higher than 50% the wheel will be more sensitive and it will move the center of the wheel to the left so you would now be turning left a little more to go straight. Also, for braking,  look to see what axis your brake pedal is under, go to the sensitivity/deadzone tab at the bottom of the page, click deadzone and what ever axis your brake is on,  put the deadzone at 15% - 25%. This helps with the braking so it feels a little more realistic and smoother. These are all personal settings/feels that I like so you may want to tweak them to your liking. Hopefully this will help
Here is the link for the ini file instructions and I uploaded dxtweak2 for windows 7 it is for logitech wheels, not sure that it will work with other manufacturers. I use a center setting of 6700 that will straighten the wheel so you dont have to turn right to go straight, you may need to make adjustments for your wheel.
My center setting that I use is for a 900 degree wheel. So when you run dxtweak2, click default axis settings, then apply. Now what ever your center reading is, change it to a smaller number to help straighten the wheel out. So if the center number is 500, try 400 instead, then hit apply, enter the game, and see where your at, and make necessary adjustments. But make sure you exit the game each time when changing the setting then reenter for the settings to take affect. Sorry I didnt specify how to adjust the center number for different wheels. Didnt think of it at the time

General Discussion / Re: Mike Koon
« on: January 29, 2015, 04:47:24 AM »
Warren,  that is an incredible  post and so true of Mike, and who he was.  It really  made me pause to think.  Mike never used his condition for an excuse or complained.  He just kept on fighting and moving forward. Instead of making excuses,  he just kept working to get better and stronger.  I think we all can learn from who Mike Koon was to help us face our own daily battles that there is no comparison as to what Mike and his family endured,  but they kept up the fight with a positive attitude. I didn't know Mike nearly as you and Ray knew him,  but reading your post,  I could not remember him ever complain or use his condition as an excuse. Thanks again for the wonderful post,  and it will stick in my mind and heart.
Greg

I am so sorry Ray to hear of Mikes passing. I know you and Mike were very close. Please say a prayer for Mike and his family, but for Ray as well and all of Mikes friends.

General Discussion / Wheel settings
« on: January 20, 2015, 12:40:39 PM »
I posted this over at SCE in their forums, but thought I would post it here as well
I just reinstalled a fresh copy of sce, and I was looking for the download of the 2 files online that removes the rfactor tach, but leaves the speed/gear/fuel showing in the game. In the process, I found an interesting read that I was not aware of, maybe I just missed it along the way. But lets say you have a wheel with 900 degrees of rotation, if you look in your user data/your name here/ and look for the controller.ini file. Double click on it, or open it in word pad or note pad, and look for the following line under general controls, "Steering Wheel Range="200" // Degrees of rotation of in-game steering wheel" which is set at 200 by default. I changed it to 900 degrees which is what my wheel is, you will have to enter the degrees of rotation that your wheel is, and what I had setup in my Logitech profiler. Last year I tried all different settings within the profiler but didn't help me. I then went into the game and my laps were a lot more consistent within a couple of hundredths a lap plus the time you loose from tire wear. But it gave me a very consistent predictable feel. If you ask Tom and Phil, last season I would piss and moan, and thats stating it nicely lol, as to why my setup feels different on different servers, or is reacting different like snap loose entering when the setup didn't do it before, or get way tight for no reason and it was very frustrating because I would keep making setup changes to compensate for it only to make things worse. I cant say 100% that this was my problem or will help you for sure, but I have done some testing the last couple of days, and it feels a lot better and more predictable. You may have to adjust your speed sensitivity, x axis sensitivity and what wheel lock you use initially to find whats comfortable to you, but I am very pleased so far. The only thing is, there were a few times when I felt the car and wheel acting funny like last season after making changes within the games controller settings. So I rechecked the ini file and the setting went back to 200, not sure if this is from creating different profiles or loading different profiles within the game, but it only happened 3 times. So you might want to check it from time to time.

General Discussion / Re: Old Skool vs Nascar's Current System
« on: October 05, 2014, 02:47:02 PM »
Should have stated it better. I was trying to compare the fan interest in a points standings that has the leader up by 200 points to if we were running that point system. I believe the SIM racers would enjoy having a chance to compete from the fun factor of a chase format compared to not having a chance in the old standard point system. It was my opinion, nothing more.

I like the format, it brings other players into the mix and will hopefully keep the interest up. Attendance has been down for years in nascar, has nothing to do with the chase format. Nascar giving teams special attention and cookie cutter tracks, cost to race you know what they say, its not how fast you want to go, but how much money do you want to spend, along with the economy - ticket pricing, hotels, gas, souveniers etc.... is what is hurting Nascar. I feel if you were good all season, you should be good in the chase. We cant start catering the rules for individuals and wanting to change physics this late into the chase. We have seen some guys starting to figure things out, they should not be punished but, rewarded with a chance to win the championship. Dont tell me nascar was interesting when Gordon, Earnhardt or whoever had a 200 - 300 point lead over second, if you do think that was interesting your lying to yourself. Of course, those were some of the guys nascar catered to werent they, hmmm. Any way those are my thoughts.
